Blob Opera
Blob Opera is a fun way to turn mouse movements into rich opera phrases. It's easy to record songs without any music knowledge. Just choose the tone and vowel, then listen as the others add harmony.
Introduction
This interactive music experience was created by artist David Li with Google Arts & Culture. Machine-learning models were created from the 16 hours of recordings by Olivia Doutney (soprano), Joanna Gamble (mezzo-soprano), Christian Joel, and Frederick Tong (bass). This experiment doesn't replay the singers. The model uses the information it learned to create four parts that respond. The first blob is the leader, while all of them harmonize live. Design removes the pressure of song and encourages curiosity. Small movements can be used to create deep basses, bright soprano peaks, or full comic chords.
How to play Blob Opera
Drag one of the blobs up or down in order to alter pitch. You can move it to the left or right to change vowel sounds. Listen to the harmony that develops around a single note. Begin with the low bass to create a solid base and then lead the upper parts towards a simple melody. When you need a clear melody, use slow movements. If the piece requires humor, then try quick changes. Record control allows you to record a performance and replay it or share with others. The four voices are the core of this experience, regardless of what backdrops you choose.
Blob Opera Game Features
The four real-time voices cover the bass, tenor, mezzo-soprano, and soprano ranges. The automatic harmony allows for musical results without the need to write down notation. The pitch and vowel control respond directly to drags. Replay and record tools save a favorite phrase. The colorful animations give each character a distinctive voice, and the world scenes bring visual variety.
Blob Opera Controls
You can select the blob with a touch screen or mouse. Drag to adjust pitch. Move forwards or backwards to select a vowel. Use the record option to save a track, and then share or play it back if available.
